ENGLISH NATIONAL BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010
VOLUNTEERS

VENUE:  The Velodrome, Sportcity, Manchester

DATE:  4th – 6th February 2011

The English National Badminton Championships is one of the premier domestic badminton events and will feature some of the top players in the world battling for the National Championship titles.

Volunteers are required to carry out essential roles during the period of the event.  If you wish to be a part of this year’s championships as a volunteer, no experience of badminton is necessary but you can be assured that you will be made welcome and catch a fine display of badminton from some of the worlds best players.

SHIFTS

Friday
Shift 1:  9.00am-4.00pm      Shift 2:  3.30pm-10.00pm

Sat      
Shift 1:  9.00am-4.00pm      Shift 2:  3.30pm-10.00pm

Sun
Shift 1:  12noon-8.00pm

Please note that these are only approximate finishing times as games can finish slightly earlier or later than expected.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Scoreboard Operators– Involves sitting courtside and operating the score cubes via a control box.  Scoring follows announcements by the court umpire.  Knowledge of scoring is not essential but desirable.   

Shuttle Squad – Required to ensure that each service judge has adequate shuttles.  To ensure the delivery of new tubes of shuttle prior to each game and the collection of/emptying of the shuttle bins.

Stewarding team – Stewards are required for a number of task including directional stewards and arena floor stewards.  Stewards will need good communication skills and the ABILITY TO SAY NO.

Programme - Required to circulate through the audience selling programmes.  Good communication skills are essential.

Results Assistants – Works alongside press officer.  Liases with tournament referee and press office.

Line judges - Either previous line judging experience or 2 years badminton playing experience required and the ability to concentrate for up to 60 minutes

Court Maintenance – To ensure the safety of the playing surface and take necessary action as instructed by the umpire.

Uniform

You are required to wear black trousers/skirt or tracksuit bottoms with no visible logos. 

You will also receive:

  • Championship t-shirt
  • Free entry to the event
  • Meal vouchers for refreshments/food
  • Unlimited tea/coffee
  • Free souvenir programme
  • Up to a maximum of £5 per day travel expense entitlement
  • Free parking

Refreshments

You will be provided with unlimited water/tea/coffee and meal voucher per shift
